Raiders Book a Double Bill for La Trinite and Salamanca
Yet again the Caribbean's cannon have kept their peace, no siege joined nor garrison tried in the whole of the day past — a stillness this column has now chronicled so many mornings running that the harbours themselves seem to have forgotten the smell of powder. The NPC Raiders' scheduling office, undeterred by its own unbroken record of disappointment, has nonetheless posted a fresh pair of summons for this evening: TROP's La Trinite, flying pirate colours, is marked to receive callers shortly before seven o'clock, with KAMI's Salamanca, under British ensign, to expect its own visitation less than an hour thereafter. Whether tonight shall finally furnish the Raiders a prize, or merely stretch their losing streak into a new and more tedious chapter, the columnist declines to wager.
The treasury ledger, too, resists any pretense of novelty. KAMI retains first place with its forty ports precisely as they stood yesterday, no rival clan drawing near enough to trouble the settled arithmetic of its supremacy. Caribbean wealth, like Caribbean arms, remains locked in a repose so total as to have become the season's only reliable constant.
